Manager and CoachesJose Canseco, Manager
Jose Canseco will be a player/manager for the Scorpions in 2011. Canseco won the American League Rookie of the Year Award in 1986 when he belted 33 homeruns and drove in 117 runs. In 1988, Canseco did something nobody before him had done when he hit 40 homeruns and stole 40 bases in a single season. In addition, Canseco is a six-time Major League All-Star, two-time World Series Champion, four-time Silver Slugger Award winner, an American League MVP winner, and a Comeback Player of the Year winner. Jose is familiar with the independent baseball circuit, having most recently played for the Long Beach Armada of the Golden Baseball League in 2006. Recently, he has made appearances on various reality television shows, including The Surreal Life and Celebrity Apprentice. Ozzie Canseco, Bench/Hitting Coach
Ozzie Canseco will serve as the Scorpions’ bench/hitting coach for the 2011, and will also play regularly. Ozzie played briefly in the Major Leagues in the early 1990’s, playing for the Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals. He is also a veteran of international baseball, having played in Japan. Like his brother, Jose, Ozzie is familiar with independent baseball and holds the Atlantic League’s single season homerun record with 48. Ozzie also appeared on The Surreal Life, impersonating his brother for an entire episode and fooling the entire cast. Roger Clarke, Pitching ManagerRoger joins the Scorpions in 2011 for the first time. He has many years of baseball experience. He brings much needed pitching expereince and knowledge to the team. Jack Galindo, Head TrainerIn 2003, Jack was teaching physical education in Upel Maracay, Venezuela. After teaching for a considerable time, he moved to the New York Mets organization where he was the assistant trainer for the Rookie League. Jack then switched organizations and worked as an assistant trainer for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Gulf Coast League. He has also worked for one-year in the Venezuela winter league for the Bravos Margarita Club. This will be Jack's second year with the Yuma Scorpions. |
